Sarah Kramer to close her vegan shop in Victoria

As many of you know, Sarah Kramer has been dealing with breast cancer since her diagnosis earlier this year. Since then, the vegan cookbook author and entrepreneur has faced many challenges, including keeping her curio shop open in downtown Victoria.

In April, Sarah’s Place (106-560 Johnson Street) temporarily closed while Kramer underwent and recovered from surgery. Now, Kramer says she’s made the tough decision to shut down her brick-and-mortar store for good on June 1.

In a blog post today (May 24), Kramer wrote:

It’s been agony trying to decide what to do. I think I’ve cried more tears about closing my store then about all this cancer stuff but bottom line is I can’t manage it all.

This isn’t a decision I’ve come to lightly. I’ve had a lot of offers for help, for volunteers for fundraisers but here’s what it boils down to. I have 7+ months of chemo and 5 weeks radiation ahead of me and that takes me into 2014.

Kramer is the coauthor of How It All Vegan! and The Garden of Vegan, and the author of La Dolce Vegan! and Vegan à Go-Go! She also has an iPhone and iPad app called Go Vegan! With Sarah Kramer.

In 2011, Kramer opened Sarah’s Place. The vegan shop moved in the summer of 2012 to its current location in Market Square (which will host the second annual Victoria Vegan Festival on July 1).

The closure of Sarah’s Place will come one month after the shutdown of Vshoen Boutique, a vegan shoe store in Victoria. Kramer plans to keep running her online store from home.
