If you like Loving Hut Express as much as I do, then you’ve probably devoured their Crispy Chick’n, bacon cheese, and grilled mushroom cheese burgers on many occasions. But have you tried their vegan version of the Philadelphia cheesesteak?
Philly’s Dream ($9) is a newer addition to the menu of the first vegan food cart in Vancouver. This juicy sandwich features grilled marinated beefless strips, mushrooms, onions, cheese sauce, tomato, lettuce, and mayo on a submarine-style wheat bun. Holy shiitake, it’s that good.
Another menu item that I recently ordered for the first time is the gluten-free mushroom burger ($9). It’s got a beefy patty, melted cheese, lettuce, tomato, onions, mayo, and mustard. The bun is made with sorghum flour, potato starch, tapioca starch, flax seed, yeast, and sea salt. I’d say it’s only slightly less delicious than the gluten-full grilled mushroom cheese burger.
Started up in 2011, Loving Hut Express is usually stationed at Pacific Boulevard and Davie Street, outside Yaletown’s Roundhouse Community Arts and Recreation Centre. The fast-food cart is currently open on Friday, 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., and Saturday, 11:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Before you visit, it’s worth checking Loving Hut Express’s Facebook and Twitter feeds for location and menu updates.
