As you may know, the Vancouver Vegan Prom, which will party at the WISE Hall for a second time on Saturday (March 9), was inspired by an event in Portland. As part of Try Vegan PDX’s Try Vegan Week, the first edition of the Portland prom took place in 2008.
Here’s another stateside event that Vancouver might wish to emulate. The Los Angeles Vegan Beer & Food Festival is now in its fourth year.
At this annual fest, there’s no need to consult Barnivore to see if the latest hipster craft beer is made with animal products. Beer vendors at this year’s May 4 event will include Golden Road Brewing, Hangar 24 Craft Brewery, Noble Ale Works, and many more. For foodies, vendors such as Food for Lovers, Gracias Madre, KindKreme, Sage Organic Vegan Bistro, and the Seabirds food truck will be on site.
The fest will take place at the Roxy Theatre in West Hollywood, and is being presented by vegan food blogger Quarrygirl and Tony’s Darts Away. If you’re going to be in L.A. then, tickets are $40 US for “unlimited beer sampling” and $15 US for non-drinkers.
Up here in Vancouver, we’ve already got a couple of big vegan events, specifically the prom and Veg Fest Vancouver. (By the way, prom tickets are available at Edible Flours, Eternal Abundance, Fairy Cakes, Karmavore, and Nice Shoes, as well as online and at the door.) Nonetheless, it’d be fantastic to see a vegan festival come to town that involves, you know, even more eating and drinking.
