Fairy Cakes and Nice Shoes help Small Animal Rescue Society of B.C.

Fairy Cakes

Fairy Cakes is Vancouver’s first vegan cupcake shop. (Fairy Cakes on Facebook)

Two of Vancouver’s vegan shops are teaming up to help small animals in need.

On February 10, Fairy Cakes (3586 Fraser Street) will host a book-sale fundraiser. That same day, Nice Shoes (3568 Fraser Street) will hold a Bunny Adoption Day just down the block.

“If you have experience with small animals and are able to provide a forever loving home for a house rabbit, please come join us for this event!” Nice Shoes says on Facebook. “All rabbits at the event will be handled by experienced volunteers only.”

Both events will support the Small Animal Rescue Society of B.C. Based in Burnaby, SARS B.C. is a volunteer-run charity that rescues and finds new homes for abandoned, injured, and neglected animals, including guinea pigs, hedgehogs, and mice. According to its website, the society relies on foster homes and does not have a shelter. SARS B.C. reported total revenue of $54,409 and total expenses of $34,490 in 2011, with zero dollars spent on management and administration. Its next bottle and penny drive is scheduled to take place on April 21.
